What happens when we drop silica gel in water?

Well, this is silica gel. It is a desiccant, it has an average pore size of 2.4 nano-meters and has a strong affinity for water molecules, according to Wikipedia. That’s why it is put in medicine, some packed food in order to storage it by keeping it dry.

I used to think that something cool will happen when I drop this in water, such as it absorbs all the water in glass and expand immediately.
But I must disappoint you, nothing happen, I tried. Maybe it will expand a little if you keep it there for days.
