The factional National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party Ali Modu Sheriff has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission to stop the party’s national convention.
The convention is scheduled to hold in port harcourt on August 17.
He asked the commission to ignore a letter sent to it by the Chairman of the party’s Caretaker Committee Ahmed Makarfi, on the proposed convention.
The letter said the caretaker committee is illegal and had no constitutional powers to convene the convention.
A Federal High Court, Abuja recently upheld the position of Modu Sheriff as the authetic chairman of the party.
The court also said that the caretaker committee was illegal, asking the excutive to stop parading themselves as party leadership.
