‘I Pity President Buhari’- El-Rufai
Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has empathized with President Muhammadu Buhari over the downturn in the nation’s economy.
The governor said Buhari has been unfortunate to lead the country on two separate occasions when it was passing through difficult and turbulent periods.
President Buhari won the election in March 2015 and was sworn-in on May 29,2015 on a promise of change and improvement in living conditions of the citizenry. But over one year after he took over the reins of leadership, Nigerians have continued to grow under the weight of economic hardships occasioned by a hike in pump price of petrol, food stuffs, other commodities and devaluation of naira, which is at an all-time low against the American dollar.
While the government says it is working hard to alleviate the suffering of the masses, whose votes swept away an incumbent president, Nigerians are fast becoming impatient and losing faith in the Buhari administration.
Mr. Buhari, who was military head of state between 1983 and 1985, seized power through the barrel of the gun, removing the “hopelessly corrupt” civilian administration of Alhaji Shehu Shagari in the process.
But just like then and now, the joy and high hopes that greeted Mr. Buhari’s ascension to power were short-lived.
Alluding to the unfavourable odds that stood against Mr. Buhari when he was military ruler and now as democratically-elected president, Gov. El-Rufai, who attended the Sunday Service of the Latter Rain Assembly, Lagos, yesterday, said: “We have always known that there is massive corruption in Nigeria but the revelations of the past one year have shocked even the most pessimistic of critics”.
According to him, nearly 70 percent of Nigeria’s oil revenues disappeared without a trace, adding the consequence of the disappearance, is what Nigeria is paying dearly for today.
“When we sit down with President Buhari these days, I pity him. I pity him because he has always become president anytime Nigeria is in trouble. First, it was after the NPN (National Party of Nigeria) government had almost grounded the economy (in 1984) and now, after a massive looting of the nation’s treasury; and he has to lead the team to fix it”, El-Rufai told the congregation.
The governor, however, assured that the All Progressives Congress-led federal government is working assiduously to fix the problems inherited from the past governments.
“But we are working round the clock to fix these problems. With your prayers and the cooperation of Nigerians, we shall surmount these problems”, he declared.
Mr. El-Rufai also said he was able to become governor of Kaduna because the Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly and one-time running mate to Buhari, Pastor Tunde Bakare, had invited him to join the now defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011.
JAMB Withdraws 2016 Admissions List Sent To Tertiary Institutions
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has withdrawn the list of recommended candidates it earlier sent to tertiary institutions for admission.
The Board, in a statement by its spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin on Sunday, said the decision to withdraw the list was to ensure that the Universities’ Senates carried out its statutory responsibility of conducting the selection of candidates and refer it to JAMB for confirmation in line with the admission criteria of merit, catchment and educationally disadvantaged states as directed by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, at the policy committee meeting.
According to Benjamin, “The earlier list was sent to help fast track the process of admission so as to allow other tiers of institutions also conduct their admission.
“Candidates should not panic because this is part of the process of the 2016 admission exercise. JAMB regrets any inconvenience this decision would have caused the tertiary institutions”.
“The Board regrets any inconvenience it’s proactive step would have caused the tertiary institutions”, the statement read.

Kanu is a master trickster who can easily attract opponents to him and then free up a team-mate, thereby creating a chance.
Kanu is also known to be a ‘joker’ (I’m not referring to a clown here) and for those familiar with card games, we know what this means. We tend to hold on to our joker in case of desperate situations when we need to change the game.
Kanu is number 3 in the ranking of most substitute appearances in Premier League history, making 118 appearances from the bench. Only Jermain Defoe and Shola Ameobi have made more appearances from the bench.
He has been known to score crucial goals, even when coming from the bench.

He has also been named African Footballer of the Year and BBC African Footballer of the Year both twice.
However, he never won the African nations cup.

Away from football, Kanu is an active philanthropist. He is the founder of Kanu Heart Foundation, an organization that helps predominantly young African children who suffer heart defects and whose work was expanded to provide aid for homeless children.
Kanu is well dedicated to heart defect victims because he survived heart complications in 1996 and had a surgery to replace an aortic valve.
After the 1996 Olympics, Kanu underwent a medical examination at Inter Milan. The medical revealed a serious heart defect.
Kanu is happily married to Amarachi. They got married in 2004 when she was 18.
They both have 3 kids.

Militants threaten to declare Niger Delta Republic today, military on high alert
Ijaw Militant group, the Adaka Boro Avengers (ABA), have threatened to declare the independent Republic of Niger Delta today August 1st. The group in a statement released last week, said after holding consultation with other militant groups in the region, they have concluded arrangements to declare the Niger Delta region as an independent republic from today August 1.
The group in the statement signed by its spokesperson, Edmos Ayayeibo, ordered people from other regions who are residing in Niger Delta to vacate their homes before today“If they refuse to heed to our warning, we will use so many as example in the Niger Delta region on the due date.” “This is to reassure the good people of the Niger Delta that Operation Delta Safe is firmly on the ground to protect them” he said.
Reacting to the threat, the Nigerian military through the Joint Task Force Commander in the Niger Delta, codenamed Operation Delta Safe, Rear Admiral Joseph Okojie, dismissed the threat of the group, saying the military would not fail to fulfill their responsibility to protect lives, property and the territorial integrity of the country. He asked the people of the region to go about their normal duties.
